Winter Participles, North Carolina Mountains

And now the fog shows up

Making a grainy tintype

Of my window

Like the war scenes of Brady

Trapping the

Grey squirrel

The deer

The peppering of birds

Heaving to the

Rough business of enduring

In a kind of aspic

Stilled, glazed

And even so

In this austere and

Chill enclosure

A wild

Bursting

The lines and figurements

Against January’s embalm

Of a world

At every now

Becoming.
