THREE TANKA

Scott Alexander Jones

as I dig for my pen

deep in my army satchel

to write about how

the sun sets,

the sun sets

eating lemons

while the ravens can’t puncture

the sea lion’s skin—

a seagull stalks me

like I’ve got any answers

lemon peels in shoes

slung over my shoulder

at day’s end—

everything about the sky now

in the carcass of a crab
