IN OUR GARDEN,

THE SMILING STONE BUDDHA

Sunlight breaks through

months of grey.

Blades pierce the soil,

spears of iris poke up

from bark chips,

daffodils trumpet yellow.

In our garden,

the smiling stone Buddha

reaches out open arms,

welcomes this carnival

of color and fragrance.

Simply open and receive he says,

pointing to days warming,

leaves greening,

new fruit forming,

and all this light.
