Artist's Statement


Wayne Burke said, “I draw in pencil and in ink.  When I use ink I'll mix the ink with White-Out—like a painter mixes paints—to produce gray tones.  It is a tricky business, but when I get the mix right I can finger-paint an entire sky in minutes or mute a background to achieve a sense of distance.  Sometime I'll apply White-Out directly—in pencil OR ink drawingsto create light within shadow or to highlight a particular object or area... Otherwise, the subjects of my drawings are things that appeal to me: smoke from chimneys on a cold morning; mist filling the valleys; sunlight filtering through trees in a glen...
