Carpe Diem, Adiós

If you were to leave too soon

disappear before I go

what would I do

If you were to act first

shut your door to me

what could I do

“I fall in love too easily”

haunts me once more

alone

La Iglesia de la Soledad

la patrona de Oaxaca

just down the hill

Averts her mournful eyes

allows us our

solitude

All that you have you offer

you serve my parched

soul

Body’s eternal hunger

nocturnal needs

thirst

Sunday the lone endless

night without you

adrift

I am departing ahead of you

my own closing time

speeds

To be the one to walk away

this too you give me

grace

How dry this waterless city

were it not for you

bereft

Blessed the one who remains

mi pequeño cafe Carpe Diem

adiós I go
