Going Into Marriage

i listened to the sound
of the wind before i
stood up from the
porch. you perched
on the pores of my skin,
looking for a way
to penetrate
inside. i did not
allow your love at first
sight upon first thought.
then you left and returned
a few days later
with your parents
as a whirlwind
seeking to take
my love away with you.
my mother asked for
a dowry. your parents
left their windy shadows
everywhere in the house.
before i said goodbye,
mother opened my head
with a cork screw and poured
into it a tea spoon of advice
that showed me how to
be a good wife.
