ALL BRUSHES FOR EMILY

(Emily As the Surface After Many Coats of Paint)

Never uncoiled, history,

clear down to the dark

blankness, takes all

brushes, holds fury only

for the laboring shapes,

the repeated motions

that always want to reach

through to a black hole. I

have no thoughts of inversion.

…………………………

(Emily As Light On a Wave)

If it is an orchid, the intimacies

will be too vast for redemption.

…………………………

(Emily As Tissue and Love)

They have tasted well

& the wash tub is full

of gone, gone, chase

& gone.  It is indelicate,

but I have scars on tips

of my fingers from her

escaping me into the pipes.

The rest of her is not so coy.
