PUSH-PULL-FADE

The east insisting on tomorrow

clashes with the west

holding tight to yesterday

and between them both

we’re pulled and tugged

fragile seams ripping in jagged patterns

one foot in the future

one foot in the past

our present a tragic melody

of stolen legends

and tattered dreams.

THE POET AND THE BAND

Music sinks in soft notes beneath the surface

Burrowing in our heads like moles

Inescapable cords weaving truth and emotion

Pulled from the guts on guitar strings

Creeping down the spine on a thunderous echo of drums

the life’s blood of us chilled with haunting melody

revived with crashing refrain

the anthems of youth roared by the gods of rock

who smirk from the posters tacked on bedroom walls

Didn’t you know all music was poetry…and all poets just members of the band.
