Unusual, even Anomalous

Yesterday was an unusual day,

even anomalous. We ate two meals out,

breakfast and dinner, eggs before chicken,

then learned that my wife’s cousin’s wife had died.

We gained weight, but lost a relative.

I hope that quip’s not too insensitive.

I don’t mean to insult or belittle

the deceased by linking her with our meals.

One or two of those events would surprise,

but the trifecta was rare enough

to be one in a million, more or less.

Seven billion, on Earth, divided by

one million. How many zeros is that?

I'd better let someone else do the math.
