In the yard of a neighbor

there is a swing set

lonely, corroded

choked by wrapped links

of dismembered apparatus

the slide

its tetanus tongue lolling

like a forgotten dog

waiting patiently for a

reassuring touch

of careening little bodies

who have long moved on

to things of

greater velocities

feet first, hands in the air

eyes closed tight

and the sensation

of being lifted off the ground

by hands so full of love

they could bring mountains

to powder

or catch you as you came

to the end of the slide
