SUBMISSIONS

Overview

Grey Sparrow Press is a publisher of visual art, photography, and literature in print and ezine. Submissions are accepted year round.  We are an all volunteer staff of an award winning journal for 2011 granted at the Modern Languages Association in Los Angeles by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals.

General Information

A brief letter of introduction, including name, e-mail address, postal address, word count, and a biographical sketch about the author and/or artist must accompany all submissions. Please wait a minimum of five months before submitting new work after a rejected submission and one year after publication with Grey Sparrow. We do not accept previously published work except by special arrangement and/or request by Grey Sparrow staff. Simultaneous submissions are accepted and must be noted in the writers' submissions.

If submissions are placed elsewhere before the Sparrow secures the right for publication, inform the Sparrow immediately at dsdianefuller@gmail.com  Upon application for review, you warrant you are submitting your original work. All submissions are subject to edit and writers are required to work with an editor if their submission is chosen for publication. New venues for re-publication will not be sought until 12 months have lapsed from the date of online and print publication. We do not publish the genres: pornography and horror. In general, we do not entertain stories that contain gratuitous drug use and/or abuse.

*We do not pay our contributors.  There is no reading fee for flash as a general submission. The flash  competition does cost $5.00 to enter. At the end of each year we nominate six contributors drawn from the print and online Journal publication for the Pushcarts. We forward our print journal to the PEN/O. Henry and BASS [Best American Short Stories] for consideration. There are additional secondary submissions for various recognition. Please decide which category you will submit writing in. Only one category will be evaluated per submission. All submissions: writing, photographs, and art should be sent by email as an attachment and should come in rtf, txt, doc, or wpd, and jpeg format. The Grey Sparrow focuses on literary fiction, fine art, and photography. If you could, we would deeply appreciate it if your manuscript was formatted in 10 point font, Georgia, in single spaced text, left adjusted.

Writing and art offered online will not necessarily be published in print. The number of readers for a webpage may have some impact on the decision to include ezine writing in the printed Journal. We have extremely limited space for our print publication.  As a general rule only one poem or flash  may be included for print publication if the writing and/or art and photography are chosen.  Since the inception of Grey Sparrow in 2009 we have offered one free journal to all contributors.
