THE OLD FARM

The light arrives from its place of hiding,
And it's fall. Meanwhile the old farm at the edge
Of town goes to seed. Some weeds are more
Beautiful in their seed shape than parrots.
It's a good place for two friends to walk.

Friends
that have never quarreledwant
The best from each other. Each carries his affection
Like those warm potatoes Depression kids
Held in their hands as they ran to school.
Let's thank God for weeds and potatoes.
