As Many Attempts Prove Necessary

Hurry of tall grass,

movement

as my demon dreams exit.

Sweet pause,

cornflowers filling space.

I try to see past

the lattice,

the sorrow, the pile of crude bricks.

Refashion words through repetition,

harbor, harbor, the terns,

bones showing through hours.

Late September with some sort

of last chance

I can’t explain, only

breathe, stay alert.
